BREAKUP: Enduring divorce by Leo Averbach

Breakup is a brutally honest and surprising divorce memoir, written as a journal in real time. The narrative interweaves the story of Averbach's painful divorce with his therapy in a deeply-reflective, intimate manner, revealing how he changed and eventually came through his ordeal better for it.

With the advantage of hindsight, I can see that the breakup of my marriage inadvertently turned out to be a transformative experience for me. The upheaval, coming like a bolt from the blue and feeling like hell, jolted me back to life and forced me to begin afresh. Akin to a wake-up call, it shook me out of the fog I had been living in for years and liberated me in the process.

By presenting this account, I am expressing my belief that my story transcends my own experience. Although I am aware that the experience of crises varies enormously from person to person, I feel that this story offers ample food for thought and could impact on the lives of many people.

Leo Averbach was born and raised in South Africa, lived on a kibbutz in Israel for 5 years before moving to London. He was married for 20 years, fathered 3 children and then divorced. After he remarried, he returned to Israel and now lives in Jerusalem Hills, where he writes and runs a pottery studio. A few years ago, he decided to resurrect the journal chronicling the breakup of his marriage and recovery that became the basis for his book "Breakup: Enduring Divorce."
